Project title: Synthesis of enantiopure 1,2-aminoalcohols from ketones
My name is Laura Leemans Martín. I obtained my Master’s degree in Applied Chemistry and Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry at the Universidad Autónoma de Madrid in Spain. As a chemist I am drawn to synthetic organic chemistry, but it is my particular interest in biocatalysis and the desire to contribute to the development of efficient sustainable processes with industrial and biomedical applications that have encouraged me to pursue my PhD as part of the Biocascades Project. My research focuses on the chemo-enzymatic synthesis of optically pure tembamide, a naturally occurring product for which antiviral (HIV) activity has been reported.
